Awards for 2009

$26,280 to the City of Cincinnati Summer Interns 2009
Purpose: To provide six graduate and undergraduate students the opportunity to learn about city government while contributing to it through summer internships in various departments.

$25,000 to the College of Mt. St. Joseph
Purpose: To provide for a speaker series at the College of Mt. St. Joseph with an emphasis on governmental best practice techniques and ethics.

$6,000 to the Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration (GCC-ASPA)
Purpose: To provide an internship opportunity for a local student, and to provide for an annual public administration awards banquet to honor achievements among public sector professionals.

$5,000 to YMCA of Greater Cincinnati
Purpose: To provide young people interested in government an opportunity to learn how local government functions in practice through an annual program called Youth in City Government.

$10,000 to Greater Cincinnati Public Radio, Inc. (WVXU)
Purpose: To support the continuation of WVXU radio news program in-depth exploration and coverage of local government issues and events by six highly experienced news professionals.

$5,000 to League of Women Voters Ohio Education Fund
Purpose: To create both in print an online a non-partisan voter guide for the November 2009 election.

$900 to Public Service Recognition - Cincinnati
Purpose: To recognize approximately 60 government employees in the Greater Cincinnati area for outstanding contributions to public service, and to recognize three students for exceptional community service.

$8,640 to the UC College of Law
Purpose: To secure release from prison for the wrongfully convicted, to correct flaws in the criminal justice system, and to provide an opportunity for law students to engage in such government reform work.

$2,160 to Hamilton County Budget and Strategic Initiatives Intern Program
Purpose: To provide an opportunity to college students to gain experience working within a professional county budget office operating and monitoring and $1 billion budget.

$4,320 to the Northern Kentucky Area Development District (NKADD)
Purpose: To provide for a public administration intern who will work to support Northern Kentucky's local governments and non-profits in the area of public administration and development services.

$8,640 to the Ohio Justice and Policy Center
Purpose: To support a legal education program that will "institute, sustain, improve, and enlarge" the capacity of the Hamilton County Public Defender to recruit and retain staff attorney's dedicated to the highest quality of client representation; strongly promote citizen participation and education for government reform; and enhance student awareness of, and interest in, serving as career employees in this crucial government service.

$5,000 to the Community Police Partnering Center (CPPC)
Purpose: To provide recognition and awards at the Community Problem-Oriented Policing (CPOP) Summit and Banquet for outstanding members of the community who have volunteered as citizen police.
