Interns for 2008

Patrick A. DuhaneyPatrick A. Duhaney
University of Cincinnati
Patrick A. Duhaney is currently enrolled as a Master of Community Planning student at the University of Cincinnati. His area of specialization is economic development, with a particular emphasis on workforce development and economic inclusion. Upon graduating in June of 2009, Patrick hopes to pursue a career in economic development or local government. From this internship, Patrick hopes to supplement his classroom instruction on economic development theories and concepts with real-world practical experience.

Erika HinshawErika Hinshaw
University of Cincinnati
Erika Hinshaw just completed her first year in the Master of Community Planning graduate program at University of Cincinnati. Prior to attending UC, she served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in The Gambia, West Africa. Erika is specializing in physical planning and hopes to work in either the public or non-profit sector upon graduation in 2009.



Maria KipfstuhlMaria Kipfstuhl
Miami University
Maria Kipfstuhl is a senior undergraduate student at Miami University, double-majoring in Public Administration and Economics. She has previous experience in local government from working at the Juvenile Court in Medina County, Ohio. From interning in the City Budget Office, she hopes to gain valuable experience in budget planning that will contribute to her future career in the public sector.


Christian LowryChristian Lowry
Xavier University
Christian graduated from Xavier University in May 2008 with an honors Bachelor of Arts degree, with a double major in History and the Philosophy, Politics & The Public (PPP) Program. He will attend the University of Cincinnati College of Law in the fall of 2008, where he plans to focus on international and human rights law. During his internship in the Cincinnati City Manager's Office, Christian hopes to build on his experiences studying urban areas in the United States, Europe and Asia by helping with Cincinnati's efforts to become a leading national and international city.


Sam McKinleySam McKinley
University of Cincinnati
Cincinnati native Sam McKinley just completed his first year in the Master of Community Planning (MCP) program at the UC, where his concentration is in Environmental Planning. Sam also earned his Bachelor's degree from UC's School of Planning, but mostly worked in the computer industry. He is a very active Sierra Club member, serves on the Board of Supervisors of the Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation District, and is on the Intermodal Coordinating Committee of OKI. Upon graduation, in 2009, Sam intends to use his MCP and experience as an Intern in the City Planning Department in a large city Planning role.


Anna RahtzAnna Rahtz
University of Cincinnati
Anna Rahtz, a Cincinnati native, majored in Architecture in her undergraduate work at Kent State University. She recently completed her first year of the Master of Community Planning program at UC, with a concentration in economic development. She also has a strong interest in public transit. In her second summer working at the Human Relations Commission, Anna hopes to further her experience with facilitating public discussion about planning issues, which can be applied to her future career in the public sector.
